ACSI currently has seven staff providing expertise and support to our members on a range of issues including engagement, research and environmental, social and corporate governance.

Ann Byrne, Chief Executive Officer
Ann joined ACSI in April 2008 and came from a background of superannuation/pension fund management at UniSuper and from The Superannuation Trust of Australia (now named AustralianSuper). Ann is an elected member of the UNPRI Advisory Committee, a Fellow of the AICD and a board member of Oxfam (Australia). In 2007, Ann was awarded the Fund Executive of the Year and was a member on the board of the ASFA. Ann is also and a member of the Monash University Department of Accounting and Finance Advisory Committee.

Phillip Spathis, Manager, Strategy and Engagement
Phillip Spathis has been with ACSI since its inception in 2001 and is also partner with law firm IFS Legal. Phillip is responsible for the management of ACSI’s strategy, engagement and advocacy programs and is the ACSI representative at the US Council of Institutional Investors (CII) and on the ASX Corporate Governance Council. Phil has also written extensively on corporate governance issues that impact on Australian Trustees.
Phillip has a background in economics and law.

Ed John, Manager - Governance and Engagement
Ed joined ACSI in 2008 and is responsible for policy, proxy voting research and engagement with Australia’s largest listed companies on a range of ESG issues. During his time at ACSI, Ed has acquired extensive experience engaging with directors of ASX200 companies on a range of ESG issues, and an insight into the reporting practices of Australia’s largest listed companies.
Ed is a qualified lawyer with a diploma in financial services and is currently completing a Masters in Commercial Law.

Paul Murphy, Manager, Institutional Investment
Paul joined ACSI in November 2011 to the new role of Manager, Institutional Investment. His core responsibility is to deepen ACSI’s relationships and influence with investment managers, asset consultants and other participants in the institutional investment process. Paul is an experienced executive in the Australian financial services industry, having held long-standing senior roles in both a major profit-for-members superannuation fund (UniSuper) and institutional investment manager (County), as well as policy advisory roles in the Victorian public sector.

Nithya Iyer, Research Officer - Environmental and Social Responsibility
Nithya joined ACSI in October 2010 after working in business journalism at Dun & Bradstreet and Business Review Weekly. Focussing on environmental and social responsibility issues, Nithya’s role includes research, advocacy and support on company engagement for issues of significant environmental and social investment risk.
Nithya graduated from Monash University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts (Politics)/Bachelor of Commerce (Finance & Accounting).

Kim Eden, Communications Manager
Kim joined ACSI in July 2008 to coordinate the organisation’s communications needs. Her primary responsibility is to manage ACSI’s member information, website, publications, marketing materials and events. In addition to her communication role, Kim also provides adminstration assistance to the Chief Executive Officer. Prior to ACSI, Kim was based in the UK for seven years working for international oil and gas company Statoil, as their Public Affairs Consultant.

Gabrielle Lamaro - Finance and Administration Coordinator
Gabrielle joined ACSI in August 2011 to coordinate the organisation’s financial, IT and administration functions. Prior to ACSI, Gabrielle held a number of finance roles within the small business sector, including the music and hospitality industries, as well as employment with a specialist research and consultancy firm.

Chris Panagiotopoulos, Administration Assistant
Chris has been with ACSI since its formation in 2001, providing administrative support to the organisation. Her primary responsibilities include co-ordination of member and voting alert service subscriptions, Committee of Management Meetings and the Annual General Meeting. Chris also works for IFS Legal, as secretary to the partners of the firm in addition to her ACSI responsibilities.
